For the first time in five years, our people travelled from all around the world to get together at the MAXIS MeetUp 2023 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The MeetUp, which took place in late September, brought many colleagues together who had only ever ‘met’ over computer screens, allowing them to get to know each other build great working relationships.  

It also gave us all the opportunity to work together to give something back to the city that hosted us so well. 

Through MAXIS for Good, we seek to make a positive impact wherever we are and we’re committed to being a responsible, ethical, and sustainable business.

So, on our first day in Rotterdam, over 140 of us joined NL Cares to volunteer, supporting local people and the city’s environment.  

MAXIS staff chose from five volunteering activities to take part in, including:  

• a clean-up challenge in the ‘Tarwewijk’ neighbourhood  

• a sports day with local children  

• gardening at the ‘The Rotterdamse Munt’ city garden  

• a surprise visit to make pancakes for elderly people at a residential home  

• fixing up a daytime activity centre for people living with disabilities. 

While the weather might have challenged us for a while, it didn’t dampen any spirits, as all the teams got stuck in and did their bit to give back.  

And the connections we made didn’t end when it was time for us to bid farewell to Rotterdam. 

Richard Mixture – a fantastic Underwriting Manager based at our London office – was so inspired by his time at the activity centre he decided to go the extra mile. An excellent artist in his spare time, Richard sent two of his paintings to the centre to hang up on the new wall that he and his colleagues helped build.  

We’re so grateful to the people who made us feel at home in their city and to NL Cares for organising the activities for us.
