It’s time to get to know another member of the MAXIS team! This month, we sat down with Iveta Camilleri, one of our Underwriting Team Leaders. She shared more about her role and the key priorities for the MAXIS Underwriting team this year.
My main responsibility is to lead a team of Underwriters who validate local member pricing and terms for inclusion in our clients’ global programmes, with a focus on Asia-Pacific (APAC) and parts of Europe. This includes partnering with regional underwriters, reviewing technical templates and aligning our underwriting practices with our local network members. I support several of our key captive clients from an underwriting and risk appetite perspective and collaborate with our Business Development, Reinsurance & Reporting, Legal and Finance teams. As a Team Leader, I also have a role in supporting the professional development of my team which is something I find really fulfilling.
Over the last six years, my role and responsibilities have developed and grown along with the market. When I first joined MAXIS as an Underwriting Manager in 2019, I was mainly supporting our captive clients and local network members. But as MAXIS, our network and the EB market have all grown, so has my role. Since 2021, I’ve taken on a number of new responsibilities including review mandates, Underwriting Committee referrals and coaching, while continuing to support our captive clients, manage key broker relationships and collaborate on cross-functional projects. As a team, we’re constantly expanding our technical expertise, alongside our network members. This enables us to help our shared clients manage their employee benefits more efficiently so they can truly support their people around the world.
The top priorities for the Underwriting team are transformation and development. Our team is focused on maintaining a consistently high level of service and developing our expertise while also deepening our collaboration with the Business Development team and our network members to ensure we’re meeting the growing needs of our shared clients. We’re also currently working on a workflow tool which is designed to enhance our productivity by combining tasks and data into one area. This project will play a huge role in making sure we’re prepared to meet the growing needs of our clients and respond to queries as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Data and innovation have increased our ability to validate our local network partners’ pricing more effectively, and we’re consistently working to improve our internal processes so we can collaborate even better. We’re also currently developing agentic AI tools to further improve efficiency for both our team and our network partners. This will mean we have a single shared source of information that we can all use, so we can spend our time collaborating on more complex cases and ensuring our clients receive the best possible service.
The main strength of the MAXIS network is the unique combination of global reach and strong local expertise. Our network members all have extensive market knowledge and expertise in their respective countries, and working with them towards one common goal creates the collaborative nature we have at MAXIS.
My favourite thing about MAXIS is the people. We have such a diverse, inclusive workforce which is full of people from so many different cultures and backgrounds. This means we all feel accepted for who we are – as a non-native English speaker, I felt I could finally be fully myself when I joined the team!
Outside work I coach synchronised swimming (which has been recently renamed as artistic swimming). My daughter has been doing the sport since she was seven, so I was always sat watching her. One day I decided to help out, which later developed into me getting my Level 2 Coaching and Level 2 Judging qualifications. I now coach a group of 13–15-year-olds which I absolutely love! I also love travelling. Every year, my husband and I explore a new city just the two of us, and in the summer holidays we like to go somewhere new with the family for a couple of weeks.
