Challenges, a French economic and business newspaper, published an article covering MAXIS GBN’s Global Health Event on 3 November 2014. The article explores how businesses can have a positive impact on the health of their employees in light of the mounting health challenges caused by sedentary lifestyles. 

 

 

Highlights:

  • By 2025, the world population of diabetics will reach 189 million. 60% of the world’s diabeics will live in China and India, growing global economic powers, presenting a major challenge for the world economy.
  • By 2050, people aged 50 and older will represent half of the world’s population. Since employees spend a quarter of their time at work, employers have a strong social responsibility to implement prevention programs and encourage good health habits. les plus de 50 ans représenteront la moitié de la population mondiale. Les entreprises ont donc une responsabilité sociale très forte. En effet, les employés passent environ un tiers de leur temps sur le lieu de travail, c'est pourquoi l'entreprise constitue le lieu idéal pour l'application de programmes de prévention pour la santé.
  • A study on workplace wellness programs including Lilly, Prevoir, and HSBC found that 25%-45% of employees chose to participate in voluntary programs offered on nutrition, physical activity, and back pain relief, compared to only 10% participation rates for similar programs offered by the public sector. For participants, 77% of employees reported greater health literacy and 50% reported increasing their physical activity.
