MAXIS GBN

Recapping a busy day one of the MAXIS Global Forum

On the 11 September 2019 we welcomed over 70 local insurers from around the world to Portugal for the first day of the MAXIS Global Forum. The three-day event brings together members of our network, along with the leadership, member management and business development teams at MAXIS GBN, multinational employers and global consultants. Our Forum is designed to allow us all to share our experiences, our expertise, our successes and challenges and, of course, best practice.

The Oitavos, a majestic but very modern hotel situated in beautiful surroundings overlooking the shores of the Atlantic Ocean just a short drive from Lisbon, is the perfect setting to discuss some of the most important topics shaping the future of the global employee benefits (EB) industry.

Bem vindo a Portugal!

MAXIS Global Forum 2019Mauro Dugulin, CEO of MAXIS GBN, opened proceedings by highlighting the importance of bringing network members together. He said that having so many local insurers together is a fantastic opportunity to share best practice and hear from key industry influencers.

He emphasised the importance of network members working together to best service global multinationals – whose needs are complex, diverse and rapidly evolving. And he was also keen to highlight the importance of MAXIS’ three core values – accountability, collaboration and creativity – and reiterate that if we live by these, MAXIS, its network members and multinationals can all win ad retain new business.

James Reid, Executive Vice President, Global Employee Benefits, MetLife, and Chairman of the MAXIS Board, also welcomed the members, talking about the importance of MAXIS to the MetLife EB structure. He also gave a breakdown of the “five C’s” that can help grow the MAXIS network.

  • Customers – developing winning solutions for global clients.
  • Collaboration – by building a global partnership with members, we can deliver more value
  • Community – by ensuring members understand they are responsible and accountable, the clients’ experience will improve.
  • Co-operation – improving communication between members and sharing best practice creates a stronger network.
  • Challenge the status quo – understanding the impact of technology platforms, looking at opportunities to reform the industry and shape the future.

Didier Weckner, Deputy CEO, AXA France and Vice-Chairman of the MAXIS Board, then too to the stage and thanked members for working together, building on the theme of collaboration and cooperation.

  • He highlighted the good news that employee benefits has moved up the value chain, with C-Suite executives proactively putting it on the board agenda.
  • He also talked about how insurers, global multinationals, brokers and providers are set to be impacted by technology. Technological advancements like artificial intelligence, robotics and more are changing the way people work and access healthcare.

Getting to know each other

As Mauro, James and Didier all referenced, the Forum is all about our members networking, getting to know each other and sharing their experiences and ideas.

Matt Richards, Director of Member Management, MAXIS GBN, hosted an interactive, high-energy networking session. The members and MAXIS staff participated in a “know your network” quiz, where they were encouraged to talk to as many people as they could in 45 minutes to find out the answers to unknown quiz questions. The energy in the room was palpable, as the friendly competition of the quiz helped conversations flow between all the guests and build strong network partnerships that will help the members and MAXIS succeed.

The winning team scored an impressive 23/24 in the quiz… they clearly know their network!

AXA XL: an opportunity to grow together

AXA XL MGF2019We were also delighted to welcome speakers from AXA XL, the property and casualty (P&C) and specialty risk division of AXA, to discuss opportunities in the (re)insurance market for both MAXIS and AXA XL, following AXA’s acquisition of XL Caitlin in 2018.

John Pickersgill, Global Head of Client Management, AXA XL, looked in-depth at how new, emerging and complex risks, particularly for multinationals, can be tackled. Delegates heard how risk mitigation and management prevention programmes can help clients prevent losses.

Matthew Latham, Head of Global Programmes and Captives, AXA XL, noted that MAXIS and AXA XL are both working with a large proportion of the biggest multinationals in the world and highlighted the great opportunity we have to work together to solve both the EB and P&C needs of multinationals.

Sunset at Oitavos Hotel MGF2019The day ended with guests getting into groups and teams for some fun activities including a football (soccer) tournament, bike tours, golf lessons or yoga, before all coming together for a sunset BBQ on The Oitavos terrace – it was a fabulous end to a great first day at the MAXIS Global Forum.

Stay tuned to find out more about the rest of the Global Forum, as we continue to shape the future of the global employee benefits.
